OCEANIAN CONGRESS ON MERCY

Last July 2009, the First Oceanian Congress on Mercy was held in Samoa-Apia.

The Oceanian Congress was hailed as a real success as delegations from nearly 15 countries were represented such as Australia, New Zealand, Solomon Island, Fidji Island, Tonga, HawaÏ.

The 6-day Congress was attended by more than 800 people, among those following full program His Excelency Alapati Mata’Eliga, Archbishop of Samoa-Apia, a genuine model of faith, prayer, humility, a true disciple of Jesus Christ. It is to be noticed that more than 40 priest were present on average thus the attendance record was reached the last day with 3000 participants !

 Each evening, three main parishes including volunteers and many ecclesial movements were involved in preparing Evangelisation’s Evening which gathered fruitfully many participants.

It is to be underlined that even an Ecumenical committee (Congretionalist Church) was present among us. Moreover, the Congress was officially inaugurated by the representant of the Government of Samoa ;-Apia.

The Oceanian Comittee is now conducted by the General Secretary presided by his Excelency Alapati Mata’Eliga helped by Lesina Levy belonging to Caritas Association.

This First Oceanian Congress closed with high hopes of being followed by many National Congresses dedicated to Divine Mercy.
